Architecture | Tkalcic Bengert (in association with Johnston Davidson Architecture + Planning) is currently designing a new fire station for the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Fire Rescue Department. The station has been designed using durable materials to meet the requirements of LEED-NC® Silver designation as defined by the CaGBC, and the structure itself will meet the post disaster requirements of the Alberta Building Code.
It accommodates 10 personnel in addition to a District Chief and four fire prevention staff. Personnel will have access to a kitchen, lounge, male and female showers and change rooms, fitness room, locker areas, study area, offices, storage areas, laundry facilities, workshop, and outdoor patio. Logistical space includes a main fire hall, three drive-thru style fire apparatus bays, a dispatch area and back-up dispatch areas, along with 28 spaces for staff and visitor parking as well as a loading bay.
