Location: Lac La Biche, Alberta
Project Value: $55 Million
Completion: 2011

The 212,000 sq. ft. Bold Center Recreation Mulitplex is a multi-purpose facility designed and built for the County of Lac La Biche. Architecture | Tkalcic Bengert and the Owner’s group strived to incorporate specific venues that not only addressed the desired recreational program, but also provided synergy of uses between the recreation and proposed educational components of the overall project concept.

A significant component in the building is the 15,000 sq. ft. Stuart MacPherson Public Library, complete with multipurpose rooms, meeting spaces, administration, and a child care/play facility, which serves both the greater County of Lac La Biche as well as the attached 800 student capacity elementary and high schools.

State-of-the-art energy and design efficiencies were incorporated to reduce operational costs and to follow environmentally responsible building and construction practices. Energy efficient interior lighting is used. A more efficient, higher value insulated and better sealed exterior envelope is applied. Extensive use of renewable materials is apparent, such as the wood and wood based products in the exterior glulam structures, interior community hall trusses, millwork and flooring.
